Standardization

Not technology that follows standards,
but technology that sets them

M2MTech builds the technology that connects physical infrastructure through data. Together with ETRI, we turned the connection methods that differed from one manufacturer to the next into a single common language, established it as an ITU-T international standard, and carried the same criteria into national and association standards.

Standardization

Our Direction

We don’t stop at developing technology. M2MTech writes ITU-T international standards for IoT, smart infrastructure and AI-based predictive maintenance, and has built those very standards into the ELSA platform.

For equipment from different manufacturers to connect on a single platform, it has to share the same way of exchanging data and the same rules for reading it. M2MTech is on the side that writes those rules, not the side that follows them. Starting from an industry-association standard used in the field, through TTA standards and national standards to international standards, we continue our standardization work.

Our standard journeyBuilding safer, better-connected infrastructure through standards

From standard to product

  1. 01 · StandardSetting standardsWe write or co-develop ITU-T and ISO standards, KS national standards, and TTA and association standards.
  2. 02 · ProductBuilt into ELSAThe standards we wrote are implemented as-is in ELSA IoT Gateway, Edge and the cloud platform. ELSA is not a product adapted to a standard — the technology that created the standard became the product.
  3. 03 · ProofPatents and certificationsWe hold Korean and US patents on the core technology behind our Physical AI OS and a patent on infrastructure-AI-based data sharing, and have been verified through eight tests and certifications by accredited bodies, including KC certification, GS Grade 1 software quality certification and IETF CoAP interoperability testing.

Standardization groups

We sit where standards are made, not where they are merely adopted. We take part as members in the seven groups below.

  • ITU-TInternational Telecommunication Union – Telecommunication Standardization Sector
    • SG20Study Group 20 · IoT & Smart Cities
    • SG17Study Group 17 · Security

We take part in SG20, which covers IoT, digital twins and smart sustainable cities, and SG17, which covers security. SG20 is where Y.4420 was born.

  • ISO / TC 178Technical Committee on lifts, escalators and moving walks
    • WG 12Working Group 12 · Cybersecurity
    • WG 13Working Group 13 · New Technologies

WG 12 covers cybersecurity; WG 13 covers new technologies, including AI and robotics.

  • TTATelecommunications Technology Association
    • PG1002Project Group 1002 · IoT Networking
    • PG504Project Group 504 · Application Security

PG1002 is the project group for IoT networking; PG504 handles application security and evaluation and certification.

  • SMSSFSmart Mobility Security Standard Forum

We take part in the forum that discusses the security criteria needed when mobility and robots interface with building equipment.
